A Pocket Knife, A Zippo Lighter and A Unity Candle.

No I was not watching an episode of My Big Redneck Wedding on CMT, contrary to what you might have thought when you read the title.
Picture this: Beautiful wedding, beautiful Bride, handsome Groom, Wonderful CMU choir singing in the background. The Bride and Groom take the candlesticks to light the unity candle and then it happens.... Nothing. So very calmly and patiently they try again and… nothing. As a member of the congregation witnessing this, you start to get a bit nervous for them; they try again and… nothing. So what does the Groom do? What any resourceful Groom would do, he fish’s around in his pocket and whips out his jack knife. Meanwhile the choir is still singing. After a few seconds of carving on the Unity Candle, Bride and Groom try to light it yet again and…. Nothing. Once again resourceful Groom takes his jack knife to the candle, and once again they try to get it lit and … nothing. At this point the Minister and the Bride seem ready to give up and just move on. But not the Always Prepared Groom, he digs back in his pocket and pulls out his trusty Zippo lighter. (Choir still singing). Together the Bride and Groom held the Zippo and finally got the Unity Candle burning bright, which resulted in enthusiastic applause from the congregation. I am sure this scene would have brought most every bride to uncontrollable tears, but both the Bride and the Groom seemed calm cool and collected throughout this episode. What a lucky girl to be marrying such a prepared and handy guy. Overall it was a great wedding and a great reception. Congratulations Dan and Megan!
