My Oldest (Older) Friend.

This past weekend we had a great time with my “Oldest Friend” Dan. Most of you if you have not met Dan have at least heard of Dan. Dan and I have been friends since probably the 2nd day of Kindergarten when he said “Hi, I’m Dan, what’s your name?” It helps that we both have/had last names that start with F, so we were alphabetically bound together for the rest of our elementary school lives. I am calling him my “oldest friend” now, because that is how his fiancé (who’s wonderful I might add) always introduces me, as “Dan’s Oldest Friend”. Which I do not like, because I think most people would then assume I am older, which I am not, Dan is older (just for the record). Anyway Dan and Megan are soon to be married (5 more days) and then they are moving downstate, so they had a big bonfire/party on Friday night. It was a great time, with lots of band nerds, music, food and of course a few drinks. And somewhere in between the fire breathing and the magnesium burning a few of us decided we should go canoeing the next day. So Saturday we loaded up the canoes and took Megan on her first trip down the Chippewa River. Despite Brent and Angela’s canoe having a minor problem (major leak) and everyone forgetting to pack beverage’s we had a great time.
This was also a first swimming experience for Dan and Megan’s dog (Morley). Contrary to what you might think, the technique of throwing your dog in the water (literally), and hoping she likes it, doesn’t always work, even if you do it multiple times, it just doesn’t seem to make the dog like swimming. (Trust me I witnessed this over the weekend).
You really should leave training your dog to the professionals, and if you need someone in a pinch, Matt the Dog Whisperer (Now for Hire). Incredibly even after the traumatic experience of being thrown in and held under Matt managed to ease Morley’s fears and get her in the water I think we may even be able to say she liked it.
